La Controra is that moment of suspension that puts an accent on the hottest hours of the day.
The installation wants to be this, a small accent in the old town, under which to find refreshment, under which to speak softly about poetry and beauty.
The intervention has a temporary character and will be assembled and disassembled on the occasion of the duration of the Verso Sud festival 2018 in Corato.
The Larghetto Mastrosanto can be reached through three entrances from the adjacent streets and from an underpass, its use is exquisitely pedestrian. The state of that historical site (these are buildings in a state of total or partial abandonment, with facades that need particularly maintenance) represents a portion of the city that needs special care.
The structure is used during the "Controra" moments of the festival Verso Sud: these is an installation that allows the effective shading of the urban space of the wide area to create a climate comfort suitable and appropriate for the organization of relational moments suitable for dialogue, confrontation and socialisation of the people invited to take part to the festival.
The temporary installation consists of an ephemeral device in wood, ropes and shading sheets, under which to place informal seating consisting of sacks in jute pretreated and using the small steps in the square. At the center of the square are placed two octagons at different heights: one at the top, suspended from the ropes, one at the bottom underneath round table form around which to entertain guests, presentations and debates. The projections of light and shadow of the installation plays an important role in increasing the magic of the place itself.
At the end of the event, the structure will be dismantled and all materials will be recycled and reused for further use in the future.
